Mission
The Institute for Redemptorist Historical Studies – North America (IRHS-NA) is a group of Redemptorists, collaborators and researchers who promote the study of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in the North American context. We seek to develop and facilitate original historical research as well as to preserve, promote, and provide access to the treasures of the North American Redemptorist heritage.

History
The IRHS-NA traces its origins to the 1986 call by the Redemptorist general government for discussion concerning the writing of a general history of the Congregation. The IRHS-NA evolved from meetings of the North American Redemptorist archivists and historians who gathered to help with that proposed general history. In 1989 the group began meeting annually as the “North American Task Force of the Project of a General History of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.” The group assumed the name of the IRHS-NA in 1996.

The IRHS-NA has published a journal, The Redemptorist North American Historical Bulletin, since 1994. The Bulletin is a venue for articles and news items concerning research in North American Redemptorist History and related fields. All past and current issues are available on this website as downloadable pdf files. If you have material you would like to submit for publication in the_ Bulletin, please contact the editor at [email protected].
The IRHS-NA also sometimes assists in the publication of books related to its mission. Publications fostered by the Institute include:

Public Conferences
Since 1999 the IRHS-NA has held public conferences (occurring every three years after 2001). The conferences are a way to share and promote the rich fruits of study in the North American Redemptorist heritage.
