Catching Up with Redemptorists in Sandy Bay

May 31, 2022Recently, Father Yvon Tremont, C.Ss.R., of the Saint Lucia community was present in Saint Vincent to help the parish and community. He arrived during Holy Week and stayed through Good Shepherd Sunday.
Father Yvon was a welcome guest, preaching and celebrating Mass in the various communities of the parish.

Easter week in Sandy Bay saw not only the completion of the new roof on the Church, but also the opening of the Galilee Grill at the Garifuna Village Market. Long a goal for the Market, housed in the original Sandy Bay Church building, the kitchen opened after much anticipation.
Equipment for the endeavor was purchased as part of the grant from the Redemptorist Mission Advancement Office, which funded the entire renovation project of the building. The Market provides a valuable service to an area heretofore lacking in wholesale and retail variety. And the newly opened Grill is a welcome addition to the landscape.
The kitchen is blessed to have Chef Desrick (D’Boy) Roberts at the helm. He is an experienced and able cook, who offers a variety of culinary delights. Among his specialties are Roti (a Caribbean favorite), Chicken and Chips, Pork and Chicken wraps, Pizza, Burgers with fries, and a variety of sides complementing luncheon meals.On Friday nights, locals don’t want to miss the BBQ, featuring roast pork and chicken, and fresh fish of the day when available. Vibrant tunes also fill the air of the festive evening.
The market has been doing well since reopening after the volcanic eruptions of last year. Business is on the upswing and with the addition of the Galilee Grill, continued growth is projected – which will help to employ additional local residents.
Four persons now regularly staff the market and kitchen, and volunteers help as needed. A good community spirit exists among all, who credit the progress to the grace of God and generosity of donors who have made it happen. Gratitude is expressed to all involved.
