All are welcome to join the focus:LIFE 50th Alumni anniversary celebration on October 28. The event begins at 12:00 noon at Madame Cadillac Hall at Marygrove Conservancy in Detroit.
More than 168,000 young adults in six areas of the country have been impacted by the program, which was developed five decades ago in Detroit to address rampant violence among youth and young adults. The program inspires young people ages 13-35 to motivate, mentor and influence their peers to become responsible, productive adults through the powerful “Peers inspiring Peers” model used successfully in neighborhoods, middle schools and high schools.
A full three hours have been set aside for participants to share memories of retreats, special events, and interactions with the founders – Alex & Judith MacDonald, Sr. Rosalie Esquerra, OP, Fr. Alex Steinmiller, CP and our own Fr. John Phelps, who currently serves as president and CEO of the organization.
Participants also are encouraged to share their own testimonies about how forgiveness brought healing to their lives. The $50 registration fee covers: Hors d’oeuvres during registration at 12:00 noon A commemorative t-shirt and souvenir booklet.
Sharing our Story at 1:00 pm; Liturgy in the Sacred Heart Chapel at 4:00 pm A buffet banquet honoring the co-founders at 5:30 pm.
