Padre Ricardo Elford, a mainstay of the Desert House community in Tucson, last week. He participated in the community’s first meeting on September 12 with all of us except Bill Adams, who continues to recuperate from hip surgery in California.
The primary work of the meeting was to get practical and financial orientation to the wonderfully renovated facilities and their operation.
Kelly Mooney, business manager of the Redemptorist Renewal Center and Desert House communities, led us through the practical financial matters that a new community needs to put in place.
Most of us are new to Tucson except for the returning Paul Coury, so there was some discussion about finding local physicians of various specialties, preparing next-of-kin information and getting keys to the various buildings.
A discussion followed about various opportunities for apostolic work with our neighboring Redemptorist community and the Diocese of Tucson. We also discussed the beginnings of a community prayer schedule and will adapt it as our apostolic and community circumstances develop.
At the conclusion of the meeting, some of us went across the street to the Redemptorist Renewal Center to join in the Our Lady of the Desert Knights of Columbus Chapter cookout, and were warmly welcomed by the Grand Knight, Fr. Tom Franciscus and Fr. Pete Connolly, their chaplain.
