Synod 2025 of the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis is a one-day gathering scheduled for June 7, coinciding with the Vigil of Pentecost. This assembly, titled “Be My Witnesses,” aims to address pastoral priorities for the coming years.
Archbishop Bernard Hebda emphasizes the importance of prayerful discernment and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in shaping the priorities of the local Church. This event will include discussions, reflections, and a vote on key propositions, culminating in the Pentecost Vigil Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul.
Preparations began with the Synod 2022 Assembly, where key propositions were identified to guide the Church’s pastoral priorities. Archbishop Hebda released a pastoral letter titled “You Will Be My Witnesses,” outlining the implementation plan for these priorities over three years.
The first year focused on small groups and fostering community engagement. The second year, which is currently in progress, emphasizes the Eucharist and deepening the understanding of the Mass. Preparatory materials, including videos and reflection sessions, have been made available to help Synod members reflect on the propositions and prepare for the one-day gathering on June 7, 2025.
A gathering was held in early April at our St. Alphonsus Parish in Brooklyn Center, one of the churches chosen for the reflection sessions. Besides Synod members, Archbishop Hebda and Auxiliary Bishop Michael Izen were in attendance.
